Blind eye ministries is a new area of ministry for Emmanuel Community, launched in 2010. The vision is to serve the poor in our local community and create opportunities of church and community for them, working in partnership with other ministries and organisations. The name 'blind eye ministries' emphasises the need to open our eyes to the poor in our community and not turn a blind eye. The motto 'never see a need without acting on it' is taken from the words of Mary MacKillop, our soon to be Australian saint. This new ministry is just in its formation stages, and the extent of the ministry will unfold over the coming years. The stages of mission planned include engaging and interacting with the local community through service, creating specifically tailored invitational outreach events, and incorporating those who are interested into our community life. The current initiatives of blind eye ministries include: Weekly Breakfast: Wednesday mornings Weekly Street Van: Thursday evenings, in partnership with Access Street Vans Fortnightly Mens Outreach: Friday nights, in partnership with Ozcare Emmanuel Life Ministry: Information / forum nights focussing on pro-life issues and formation NT Immersion Experiences: Immersion experiences for young people
